This exhibition presents a comprehensive survey of Isamu Noguchi’s most important artistic relationships with influential figures of the 20th century. Collaborators include: Arshile Gorky, Alexander Calder, Constantin Brancusi, Berenice Abbott, Frida Kahlo, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Louis Kahn, and many others. In addition to works by Noguchi, the exhibition includes personal photographs, ephemera and correspondence from The Noguchi Museum Archive as well as sculptures, paintings and drawings by his influences. On Becoming an Artist celebrated the 25th anniversary year of The Noguchi Museum.
